Grass is both a protein and a tannin stain: hot water coagulates the protein, and heat or alkali sets the tannin — so treatment starts with a cool-water enzyme soak. [1]

Mud works the opposite way from most stains: let it dry fully, then scrape and brush off as much as possible before any water touches it. [2][3]
